Untitled All about us at game-endings.co.uk

Well, kind of about us, kind of an FAQ - but at the time of writing, this site hasn't launched, so no-one has asked any questions at all, let alone frequent ones.

The idea for game-endings.co.uk came out of a post in a game forum I made suggesting it would be a good idea to start a repository of game-endings. In usual forum style, this idea was beaten down, poo poo'd, and generally as popular as dog shit.

Don't try, then you don't get... or something. So we have built this small site in the hope that people will want to contribute something, fingers crossed an all that.

So, some questions you might ask could be things like -

- Why are the clips so small ?
It's all to do with the amount of webspace we have, and the amount of bandwidth we have. We spent a week or so messing around with compression, and decided we just about have the balance between quality and file size. While the quality is not fantastic, you can play it in full screen from a media play, and it'll look ok.

- What happens if the site gets full or bandwidth is exceeded ?
Depends really, we're quite happy to stick in a bit of money every month to keep things going, but if bandwidth is going to be swallowed up really quickly then we might end up with just the latest, or most popular clips as direct downloads, with the rest of the repository becoming torrents. It's early days though, nothing is happening right now :-)

- OMFG you showed a spoiler for game xxxx
Well, duh. Yes, in a site that reveals the very end of games, it may be possible - in fact pretty damn likely that spoilers are revealed. Especially since we try and run through a quick summary of the events in the game that happened up until the point of the ending. If you don't want to know, then don't look !

- Why does your html/logo/design suck ?
We're certainly no experts on any of that stuff, this was cobbled together over the period of about a week, using flat html files and lots of looking at the reference pages. Right now I don't feel the need for any fancy PHP connecting to a mySQL database, but hey if you are a fantastic html/php coder, or a graphics artist who would like to contribute stuff for the site, then just email us.

- Why have you added a game-endings.co.uk logo to all the clips, are you trying to rip peoples captures off as your own ?
Answering the later, absolutely not - we're trying to positively encourage people to not only donate clips for us, but provide us with some words to go with them - obviously we're also highlighting who it was that made the contribution in the first place as much as possible. There were a few reasons for doing this, but they both boil down to the same thing really, it's an audit trail. I've been sat in game based forums for years now (when I should be working) and often a post about a video clip springs up, but it's just there, and there's no possible link back to a story behind it or who captured the gameplay. One of the idea with the logo on the side of the clips is that people can track it back to our site and get the story behind the capture, and who actually sat there and went to the effort of playing the game and capturing the video. From our point of view we do want to attract more visitors so more people may think about getting some more captures for us, but what I'm hoping is that this idea is appealing to the people contributing the video content for us, as even if other people download the clips and start posting them elsewhere, they'd be a route back so they can see who provided it originally.
